Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide and a selective growth hormone secretagogue. It acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R), part of the same signalling system used by the natural hormone ghrelin.
Research has focused on Ipamorelin because it can stimulate the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. Early laboratory and animal work found it to be relatively selective for growth-hormone release compared with some older growth-hormone-releasing peptides, which can also have stronger effects on hormones such as cortisol or ACTH.
In plain English: researchers are interested in Ipamorelin because it encourages the body’s own growth-hormone system rather than supplying growth hormone directly. Growth hormone is involved in processes such as tissue growth and repair, protein metabolism, body composition and the production of IGF-1, so these are the areas that have driven much of the interest in Ipamorelin research.
Human studies have confirmed that Ipamorelin can stimulate growth-hormone release, including controlled studies in healthy volunteers.
